Happy anniversary, Vatos Philippines!
For the whole month of February, grab your favorite Vatos Urban Tacos for just PHP100 (2 pieces per order). Included in this promo are Spicy Chicken, Chimichurri Chicken, Braised Carnitas, Chili Lime Shrimp, Korean Pork Belly, Baja Fish and Barbacoa Pork. Its premium tacos Carne Asada and Wagyu Galbi Short Rib are available for PHP200 (2 pieces per order).
My favorite would be Baja Fish with its delicate white fish flavor complemented by spicy chipotle mayo, pico de gallo and apple coleslaw.
If you want something more flavorful, do go for Korean Pork Belly which is marinated in Korean soy paste and topped with ssamjang aioli and onions.
Spice lovers would enjoy Chimichurri Chicken which is basically Vatos Spicy Chicken 2.0. Topped with chimichurri salsa, lettuce, sour cream and Mexican cheese, it added this delightful herby and tangy taste to the spicy chicken.
Its ginormous margaritas are also available (sans the bottle) for just PHP100 on February 1 and 2! I am so in love with Sexy Sanchez!
Grow a Pear is pretty good too and has a stronger alcohol taste.
Feeling extra adventurous? Grab a glass of Makgeolitas (PHP320), a blend of tequilla and Korean rice wine. This sweet yet tangy drink comes in seven addictive flavors. I love peach best!
One's Vatos dining experience is incomplete without trying some of its scrumptious crowd favorites such as Vatos Cowboy Quezo (PHP390) and Honey Tequila Chicken Wings (PHP490).
It was love at first bite for me when I had Vatos Cowboy Quezo last year. Rich, thick and cheesy, this is one of the most stellar dishes I've had last year. I absolutely love the beautiful marriage of pepper jack, cheddar cheese, black beans, pico de gallo and cilantro lime crema. The well balanced dip is so addictive that I could finish one bowl on my own. Though its consistency changed during my most recent visit, its flavor remains the same. (Note that this dish is served piping hot to be extra careful or patient when indulging in this heavenly dish.)
A heavier dish to snack on is Honey Tequila Chicken Wings. This sweet and mildly spiced treat goes superbly well with the blue cheese dip it comes with.
If it's your first time in Vatos, do try its signature Kimchi Carnitas Fries (PHP350). Just do not underestimate this basket of fries as it is very filling. Topped with braised pork carnitas, sauteed kimchi, melted cheese, sour cream, cilantro, onions and Vatos hot sauce, this chunky appetizer is definitely good for sharing. Its hot sauce and kimchi might make this dish a tad too hot for those with low spice tolerance.
But if you are feeling extra hungry, Vatos' burrito bowls are worth checking out. These hefty bowls will surely fill you up in no time. In fact, one bowl is good for two, or even three.
If you want something packed with protein, The Fat Bastard (PHP560) is the one for you. This bowl made with carne asada steak, barbecue pork, grilled fajita vegetables, roasted corn salsa, cilantro, onion, pico de gallo, cilantro crema, chipotle salsa, Vatos hot sauce and topped with a scoop of guacamole is a wonderful blend of textures and flavors. Meaty, citrusy, sightly sweet and spicy, the complexities in this bowl work so well that I didn't mind its lingering spice.
To cap the night, we indulged in Nutella Nachos (PHP225). The tortilla triangles has this puff pastry texture with its multiple thin layers. Lightly drizzled with Nutella and powdered sugar then topped with vanilla ice cream, it has that spot on level of sweetness.
A new item you might want to consider trying is Bacon Jalapeno Brownies (PHP180). Your typical walnut brownie just got more interesting with it being spiced with Jalapeno then topped with vanilla ice cream drizzled with dulce de leche and sprinkled with crispy bacon bits. It's one treat where sweet, spice and everything... bacon-y meet.
Needless to say, I went home with a happy tummy. Great food and drinks as usual, Vatos! I can't wait to be back. Perhaps on February 1 and 2?
