Finally... a trip to YAKIMIX

I was really excited when I found out that Yakimix will open another branch in Greenbelt since I find the MOA and Tomas Morato branches too far from my place. But alas, my plans to visit the place always get canceled for several reasons—stomach ache, flu, friends on diet, etc.

Anyway, I finally had the chance to eat at Yakimix (yey!) and I was not really surprised when I saw some people waiting to be seated. We waited for an hour before we could get a table (and yes to those evil minded readers, with chairs). I first took the salmon sashimi since that’s my favorite followed by kani sticks and several kinds of maki such as veggie maki, kani maki, and kappa maki.

*Off to the REAL food area* I also took some chapche (Korean stir fried noodles with vegetables), kimchi, lechon macau, fried rice, broccoli with shrimp, mushrooms, and samgyeopsal. I had a hard time finishing my plate (and I had to if I want to avail the Php. 499 no left over price). I was not able to go back for another plate but I can’t help get another serving of salmon sashimi.  I still made sure though that I get to try the desserts. I tried the macaroon, chocolate crinkle, coffee jelly, and blueberry cheesecake, and this chocolate covered pastry (I do not know what it is called).

VERDICT: The main dishes, sashimi, and maki are good. It was well cooked and the sashimi is fresh unlike other restaurants. The dessert was a bit of a disappointment. It was on the bland side. The cheesecake lacked the tangy taste I was looking for. In fact, it tasted like warm whipped cream.

For Php. 499 (plus Php. 65 for bottomless drink) it was a good deal. Just make sure you stuff yourself with lots of sashimi and maki since those are the dishes I find most expensive.  Do not bother going to the pastries area. Ice cream will do to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Service was quite terrible though. Servers were not smiling and they were quite rude when serving us drinks. They must remember that even though the restaurant is always packed with people, it does not mean that EVERYONE will go back. Service is part of the total restaurant experience. It might take me a while before I consider going back just because of the bad service.

All about KFC Double Down

Since I have been hearing so many people clamoring for this so-called KFC Double Down, I’ve decided to buy one on my way home. Well, the rage is dying a bit now since it has been weeks (or was it more than a month already)? Anyway, I bought one Double Down with coleslaw and cola.
My first impression: THE DOUBLE DOWN IS JUST A SMALL CHICKEN BURGER. I had this notion that it is a burger for real fast food eaters. I guess I was wrong.
It tasted like one big chicken strip from the KFC Gogo sandwich… only it had bacon and cheese on it. I find it a bit too salty and it also has this umay or sawa factor.
I still prefer Burger King’s Chicken Sandwich. It is bigger and more filling for me. J

Another reason why National Bookstore is the best!

I dropped by National Bookstore this afternoon to buy something for work. When I was about to pay for my purchases, the cashier asked me if I want to donate a book. I immediately thought of donating OLD books so I asked her where the box was and until when we could donate since I just cleaned my room. She then went to another counter and took a book near the registrar. Apparently, for you to donate a book, you have to buy a book, a brand new one.

I am not against the idea. In fact, I find it a great idea! We are so used to the idea of donating old things we no longer need. We hardly buy new things and donate it to charities and other institutions. In fact, even if we do not really need something, as long as it is brand new, it is quite hard to let that thing go. (Guilty? >:D)

So, if you want to be a gift to others (naks!), do drop by National Bookstore and buy a book. According to http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=527228, books are as low as P30. The one offered to me though was P65 (hmmmm…). As a treat, you could have your name on the book (“donated by___”) and have your name as well on an ornament (well, it’s actually just paper) for the NBS Christmas tree.

*proud*

One feel good moment. ^^

McDonald’s Twister Fries is BACK!!!

The irresistible twisted devil is back and you could upsize your ordinary fries with this by adding just PhP25. Not bad at all.

Oh so tempting!!!
McDonald’s is shrewd for offering the Twister Fries for a limited time only. This makes the customers really anticipate for it and drive up sales. Just brilliant! But I hope that they will bring back “shake your fries” (I forgot the name they used for it) they used to promote Kung Fu Panda. It was also good. J

Secret Recipe's secret

7:10pm
Since we didn’t know that AGAVE in Shang closed already (good bye unlimited margarita! L) we decided to go to the 6th floor. First stop: Sumo Sam. The place was full and we have to wait for 15 minutes to get a table. My friends are too hungry to wait so we checked other places. 2nd stop: Recipes. The place has only one available table which is good for 2 people only and we were 7. So, off we go to the restaurant beside it, SECRET RECIPE.
It was quite hard to find food that is not oily and does not have anything dairy. So I decided to have salad instead (good thing I looooove salad). I ordered Caesar Salad and Cream of Mushroom. Seems okay since I always order it in other restaurants (as an appetizer though and not as my main course… loser tummy!).

I tried the salad first and it was not good at all. The taste was quite weird. In fact, it tasted like yoghurt salad. I love yoghurt but not with lettuce, boiled eggs, and croutons. Just wasted PhP150. T.T

Next was the cream of mushroom. It was decent and somehow helped me feel full. (BUT I found out from a friend that though it is called cream of mushroom,   it is not really cream but something else. So, it is quite similar to the Chicken Nuggets mystery.)
My friends ordered other dishes like fish and chips and pasta but they find it mediocre as well. Quite overpriced for the taste of the dishes.
Anyway, SECRET RECIPE’s secret is something I am not interested to know.

Forever line at Forever 21

The 3-Day Mega sale was so INTENSE! I didn’t know that Megamall decided to open early (thus the reason why people already have tons of shopping bags before 10am!). My first stop was Forever 21 because I know that teens and yuppies will flock that place like mad…women in a few minutes and I was quite right. The place was already full when I got in (but I didn’t have to wait outside to get in). I quickly browsed through the racks, took what I find okay~(meaning not-so-okay-but-it’s-cheap-so-I-will buy-it-anyway) and hurriedly looked for the fitting room. I waited for about 30 minutes! (Mental note: wear skimpy/body hugging clothes during sale to avoid it—so diet I must before sale) About half of the clothes didn’t fit me (since the smaller sizes were na-da already when I got in). Basically, I ended up getting almost regular items but since I have an SM advantage card, I get an additional 10% off. Not bad… right?
And here’s the ugly part… the line to the cashier! I saw this long line and I immediately thought that this is the line to the cashier and I was right. After 5 minutes, I was wondering how come there are 2 ends. I asked 2 sales crew about it and one said that the other end is for those who bought 12 pieces or more. (Darn, I only bought 7!). The other one said that it is somehow the same so it would be better for me to just stay put. I SHOULD HAVE NOT LISTENED TO THOSE INCOMPETENT PEOPLE!!! I was at the wrong line for 2 hours!!! Apparently, the line was meant for people who bought 4 pieces or less and the LOOOOONG line has only one cashier! *AIGOO*
The ugliest part though is this: the sales manager was not sympathetic (nor apologetic) at all when one customer told her about us skipping lunch because of the long line and the wrong information given to us. She just smiled like a fool and smirked after the customer complained. Terrible TERRIBLE service.
I got out around 2 pm… dizzy. Went straight to Una Rosa and Nine West… BETTER SERVICES (well, it’s a given that those stores are smaller… and smaller is not always a bad thing).
