Hello, Soban K-Town Grill.
Soban is one of the few restaurants I fell in love with at first bite. Its delightful Korean BBQ meats were well-curated and each one was fresh, tender and flavorful. Aside from that, Soban also offers great kimchi fries and Dak Ganjeong (Korean Fried Chicken) among others.
To make 2018 even better, Soban offers its heftiest set menu to date... the Mega Meat BBQ Set for 4 (PHP2,000)! This set features 1,200 grams of premium meat namely Fresh Woo Samgyup (300g), Marinated Woo Samgyup (180g), Fresh Samgyupsal (180g), Soy Garlic Samgyupsal (180g), Chili Bean Samgyupsal (180g) and Dak Ganjeong (180g). It also comes with unlimited sides, soup and plain white rice. You can also upgrade your rice to kimchi fried rice by just adding PHP20 per person.
I know that this set is perfect for four hungry foodies but seeing the set in person made me realize that it could feed up to 6 or even 8! However, note that Soban is strict with the number of pax for its set menu. If there are 5 of you who wish to share this feast, one must order a solo set menu. Quite fair as the set menu also has unlimited dishes that need to be taken into account.
There are six banchan (side dishes) included in the menu-- egg roll, sweetened peanuts with anchovies, water spinach, mashed potato, spiced beansprout and of course, kimchi.
Make sure to take a sip of the soup while it's hot. The clear broth sure whets the appetite.
I highly recommend that you upgrade your rice to kimchi fried rice for the complete Korean dining experience. You can always go back to plain rice if you didn't like it.
I love that the set includes Dak Ganjeong as it gives me something heavier to munch on while waiting for the rest of the meat to be ready. And as always, it was pure joy. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside made extra delicious with its sweet addictive flavor.
First meat on the grill was Fresh Woo Samgyup. Beefy in every mouthful. Make sure to dip it in one of the two samgyup sauce for extra flavor. One is salty and another gives the meat a sweeter taste.
Fresh samgyupsal was great too! I love this one with ssamjang which gives it a bit of spice and saltiness.
The Marinated Woo Samgyup reminds me of Upjinsal with its slight sweet taste. It's tasty enough to be enjoyed as is.
If you prefer bolder flavors, you'd like Soy Garlic and Chili Bean Samgyupsal.
Soy Garlic Samgyupsal has that sweet garlicky flavor that we Filipinos love.
I skipped Chili Bean though as I was intimidated by its bright orange color. I was also told that it was spicy. N mentioned though that it wasn't. But I played it safe.
One more thing that made my visit pleasant was how proactive the Soban Greenbelt 3 crew members were . Then again, same is true in all branches. Soban is like the Starbucks of Korean restaurants. Great service no matter where you dine.
Overall, it was one bang for the buck feast. Instead of spending your hard earned PHP500 to avail of unlimited K-BBQ, do try Soban's Mega Meat BBQ set instead. It is equally filling and you get to enjoy better meat!
This set is only available from September 1 to December 31, 2019 across all Soban branches.
Soban has branches in Eastwood, Greenbelt 3, Alabang Town Center, SM North Edsa and Robinsons Place Manila. Soban is also opening soon at One Boni and SM Megamall.
