Hello, The Red Crab.
The stylized signage of The Red Crab never fails to catch my attention. But its fancy facade doesn't match its worn out interiors.
It was my first time to visit The Red Crab. I didn't even know that this is a Filipino restaurant until I checked its menu in Zomato. I actually convinced my family to dine here so that I could use Zomato Gold's 1+1 on food. I was unaware though of the rule that I have to be there and unlock the code prior ordering. And since I was stuck in the holiday's crazy traffic, my family had no choice but to wait for me.
Thankfully, service was quick. We got our orders Sigarilyas Express (PHP275), Crispy Crablets (PHP188), Rellenong Alimango (PHP385) and Sinigang na Bangus Belly (PHP328) in 15 minutes or less.
The Crispy Crablets were your straightforward deep fried bite size shellfish. Served with calamansi aioli, it can be a good starter to your meal.
I loved Sigarillas Express! Winged beans with kangkong stalks, cooked in coconut milk and topped with crispy pork belly, this is a plate oozing with several flavors and textures. Sweet yet savory, snappy and crunchy. It's best eaten with rice.
I'm impressed with the Rellenong Alimango's generous serving of crab meat. The crab shell was stuffed to the brim! It is good for 2 to 3 guests if you are sharing other dishes.
The chilly weather made Sinigang na Bangus Belly a great dish to indulge in. And I love that The Red Crab did not scrimp on bangus belly. I just wish that the broth was a bit more sour and fragrant.
Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. Service was fast and food was good. However, none stood out for me to want more.
