They say Asians can't live without rice. Well, I could but I definitely will go crazy without bread. I'm a sucker for good toast. It's one of my staple meals for breakfast. And when I got a taste of Kaya Toast, I'm hooked! Needless to say, I was heartbroken when I found out that Toast Box bid Manila farewell. But my frown was turned into a big grin when Nanyang opened.
Hello, Nanyang.
Nanyang is the local counterpart of the crowd favorite Toast Box. Offering scrumptious toasts paired with soft boiled egg, it was an instant hit with me.
It recently opened a branch along Bonifacio High Street and we were invited to try its toasts and a bit more.
We started with Kayamila Original Traditional Toast (PHP70) and paired it with some Soft Boiled Eggs (PHP15/piece).
The fragrant toast with delectable coconut spread and butter is a perfect meal to start the day or an afternoon pick me upper.
It went superbly well with Kopi Jelly Milk Tea (PHP130) too. It wasn't that sweet which complemented my toast. Serving wasn't that much though, or I was just very thirsty.
If you're looking for a more filling meal, do try Nanyang's Hainanese Fried Chicken (PHP268), Prawn Laksa (PHP268), Curry Chicken (PHP248, served with rice), Cheesy Chicken Chop Noodle (PHP238), my favorite Fish Ball Noodle Soup (PHP198) and new favorite Prawn Noodle Soup (PHP268).
The light flavor of Hainanese Fried Chicken topped with ginger sauce is delightful! Crispy yet juicy, this is a great dish to have for lunch or dinner.
If you want something spicy, Prawn Laksa or Curry Chicken are worth checking out. Prawn laksa is less spicy compared to curry chicken but both have this delicious coconut taste.
Fish Ball Noodle Soup is my usual order at Toast Box and it has been my go to meal whenever I'm sick. This hearty bowl is filling and comforting, perfect on a gloomy day or when one has sniffles.
But I found a new favorite with Prawn Noodle Soup. Its richer broth paired with slightly hard noodles and fresh prawns definitely tickled my taste buds and made me forget my first love.
An equally good dish to try is Cheesy Chicken Chop Noodle. This plate of dry savory noodles with that lovely sweet flavor served with cheesy lightly battered chicken is something I'd surely get again in my next visit.
We also tried Iced Kopi Melaka (PHP130) and Iced Teh Melaka (PHP120). Though both are good, I still prefer Kopi Jelly Milk Tea over these two.
I can't wait to go back for more!
Nanyang is located at B7 Bonifacio High Street, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
