Hello, Brotzeit.
Known for its scrumptious German fare, Brotzeit is out to impress our taste buds once more with the Bavarian favorite White Asparagus.
Spargelzeit or asparagus season only comes around for three months a year and is highly sought for its tender sweetness. And you can grab yours here in Manila!
We started off our meal with Spargelsuppe or White Asparagus Cream Soup (PHP290/cup | PHP490/bowl). It was indeed creamy with slight saltiness from the smoked ham. The white asparagus added a bit of crunch to the dish which I found delightful.
Keeping it light and healthy, Spargelsalat (PHP550) is the one for you. This bowl of greens topped with white asparagus, mandarin oranges, dried blueberries, walnuts, pine nuts and drizzled with balsamic dressing is one guiltless dish perfect for those who are trying to cut some calories. My first bite was a tad bitter though so it might be good too to ask for additional dressing if you dislike bitter taste.
If you prefer to indulge in more white asparagus, it is best to go for Der Spargel-Klassiker (PHP850, half | PHP1,400, full) which comes with parsley potatoes and choice of hollandaise sauce or brown butter. You may also have add-ons such as Black Forest Ham, Smoked Salmon, Smoked Ham or Poached Eggs for PHP100 each.
But if you are visiting with a bunch of friends in tow, go for Spargelplatte (PHP1,650, half | PHP2,900, full) instead. This mighty platter is composed of 400 grams of white asparagus, served with smoked salmon, black forest ham, poached eggs, smoked ham and parsley potatoes with hollandaise sauce on the side.
It was like having a German picnic with this dish! Such massive platter is great for 4 to 6 guests or probably more if you plan to try more dishes.
We were supposed to try Spargel Mit Rinderfillet (PHP1,300) and Spargel Mit Lapu Lapu (PHP1,050) but Brotzeit ran out of white asparagus that day. Just proves that this vegetable is indeed in demand and is very limited!
Instead, we feasted on Brotzeit's crowd favorite Pork Knuckle! (So much for eating healthy. But it was worth it!)
The Spargelzeit menu is available until supplies last so make sure to drop by soon.
Oh, did you know that you could request for your Lychee Grape Shake to be just Lychee Shake? Yes, I had mine simplified and I love it!
Brotzeit is located at Ground Floor, Shangri-La at the Fort, 5th Avenue, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
