I hardly visit the mall these days but I think I just found a reason to go to Uptown Bonifacio on a weekly basis. No, it is not because of Christmas shopping or that I have to watch the latest movies. It's because of an Italian restaurant that wowed me with its heavenly pizzas.
Hello, Mamma Mia.
Welcomed by warm and inviting interiors, I felt at home as soon as I stepped in. I got charmed by beautiful combination of bricks, marbles and yellow accents.

Love at First Bite: Toast Asian Kitchen and Tasting Room
I really love how our food scene evolved throughout the years. These days, we don't have to board a plane just to get a taste of other cuisines. And with restaurants and malls popping here and there, sometimes we don't even have to drive around. The residents near Meralco Avenue have it good as they are near the newest Ayala mall and one of my new restaurant favorites, Toast.

Love at First Bite: Grape Escape
I love exploring Maginhawa because it is filled with restaurants offering scrumptious dishes at affordable prices. And one of my latest discoveries is this wine place that serves impressive dishes that would intoxicate you with happiness.
Hello, Grape Escape.
It was a bit hard for me to spot Grape Escape during daytime when its signage is not lit. But thanks to Waze and its informative Instagram account, I was able to get dropped off at the right location. [Tip: Look for the building with Bo's Coffee and Anytime Fitness.]

Love at First Bite: Nonna's
I've been hearing great things about this pizzeria in the South that I couldn't help myself from wanting to visit it ASAP. However, the place isn't exactly near. In fact, it isn't even in Metro Manila. But when I won some gift certificates from that restaurant, I finally have a good reason to drive all the way to Nuvali for lunch. And I finally did a few weeks ago.
Hello, Nonna's!
This restaurant, which is also a brainchild of the brilliant minds behind the successful Mama Lou's, was quite packed on a Sunday morning. Thankfully, we were early enough to secure a table for five.

When In Hong Kong: Ikea Bistro
I love Ikea. I simply could not resist visiting one whenever
I find out that there’s one nearby. The adorable and affordable furniture
pieces make me want to redesign my place ASAP. But aside from the smart
space pieces, one thing I love about Ikea is… IKEA BISTRO. Oh meatballs!!!
Hello, Ikea!
It has been a while since I last
visited one. I remember getting meatballs and soft-serve
ice cream every time I visit. It was a sweet reward after walking around
the huge Ikea store.
This time around, it was
even more thrilling to look around especially since I now have my own space to
spruce up. But let me skip my whole I-wanna-try-that, I-wanna-sit-on-that-one,
and ooh-what-is-that-cool-thing phase and go straight to the mouthwatering
snacks Ikea offers.
I was surprised that despite
the massive size of the store, they scrimped on the bistro area. It makes you
remember that you’re in Hong
Kong where space is as precious (and expensive) as diamond.
Anyway, nothing can hinder
me from getting my meatballs, even when the bistro is packed.
We got an order of Swedish Meatballs
(HK$9, 5 pieces), Hotdog
with Soft drink (HK$10), and Smokey
Honey Sausage
(HK$10, 3 pieces).

Restaurant Discovery: Linguini Fini
I love birthdays.
I get giddy waiting for 12 midnight just to greet my favorite people. And I
want to be the first one to greet them. Yes, I could be competitive with those
things too. (I also want to be the last one to greet them [again] just because
I like to pester the people I love.) And birthdays are always best celebrated
with people dear to you. Okay, I kind of forced myself to be dear to Lil R.
It was one
(failed) tea
afternoon when my favorite Dragon lady (T), Lil R, Big R and I decided to
explore the new restaurants of SM Megamall’s Fashion
Hall. We originally planned to visit Ippudo but I think Ippudo hates me.
Every time I plan to visit, the line looks like Nokia’s Snake that has been
played for 10 hours.
We roamed
around for a bit and saw Linguini Fini,
a new Italian restaurant near Boqueria
(which is now Alqueria).
The place looks cozy. So, why not?
It took us
quite a bit to decide on what to order but finally decided to get Porchetta (PHP595, served sliced and
with chili mostarda), Bianco
(PHP745), On Top of Spaghetti
(PHP425), and Pappardelle “Nose to Tail
Bolo” (PHP430).
First served
was the Pappardelle “Nose to Tail Bolo” and it doesn’t look pretty. But the
taste says otherwise. The bouncy pasta
with the pork testa, veal
and oxtail
ragu were savory and delightful. T though found a bone on her portion.
The Bianco is your usual cheese
pizza.
I only had one slice as it was oily. (Sadly, my tummy reacts funny to oily food
after two weeks of Alkaline diet.) Cheese
lovers would love this though as the pizza had a generous serving of mozzarella,
gorgonzola,
ricotta, Parmigiano, and Grana Padano.

Love at First Bite: Duck & Buvette
I spy something new and I will visit it as soon as it opens!
True enough, I paid Duck & Buvette a visit last Friday and it was still on
its soft opening. I love my oh-gosh-that’s-new-so-I-must-eat-there-NOW mind (and tummy).
Hello, Duck & Buvette!
The place was not so packed when we arrived. Roughly around
5 to 6 tables were occupied so we still managed to score a couch seat. Oh yeah~
Some of the items I wanted to try like the Twice Fried Duck Fat
Potatoes, Grilled Octopus Salad and Crispy Squid & Kale Chips were not
available when we visited. (I now have the perfect excuse to visit again!) So
we settled with the following instead: Crispy Potato Pavè and Salty Duck Egg (PHP175), Maple Candied
Bacon & Lemon (PHP175), Angus Meatballs (PHP 240), 8 Hour Angus Brisket
(PHP370), and Grilled Chicken Provencal (PHP320).
First served were our drinks. I just
ordered a glass of Iced Tea and it sure was sweet! I had to wait for the ice to
melt. You may opt to ask for water and just dilute it.

Restaurant Favorite: Boqueria
If I love the food and the service, I'll be back. It's that simple. If one's missing, it'll take me forever to go back. But everything was pleasant with Boqueria when I had lunch there last month so I visited it again with my good friend of 21 years (yes, I'm proud of how long we have been friends).
Hello again, Boqueria!
I gave A the decision on where to eat as long as it's not X1 or X2 restaurants.(Oooh, blind items!) But she was okay with any as well as long as it's not a Filipino restaurant so I recommended Boqueria. Plus we were too famished to explore further.
When we got the menu, I noticed that there were price changes. Some of the dishes became more expensive. The staff, however, clarified that the serving got bigger to justify the price changes. (There was an average of PHP200 jump from last month's.
Since we will bowl and drop by Cafe Juanita after lunch, we decided to keep it "light" with the following dishes: Albondigas con Foie Gras (PHP288), Pollo con Salsa Mango (PHP298), Paella Marinera (PHP368), and two glasses of Mint Iced Tea.
