Restaurant Favorite: Abe

The crazy number of restaurants we have in Manila makes it challenging for most establishments to be relevant. With the market bombarded with so many options, consumers find it hard to stay loyal to a particular restaurant... unless the restaurant's doing something right. And such is true with Abe of the LJC Group of Restaurants.

Hello, Abe
Abe has been around for several years now yet each branch continues to be flocked by numerous guests every day. And it takes only one bite to understand why.

I love that Abe has a wide selection of local dishes suited for different palates. I've been a fan of this restaurant ever since my first visit close to a decade ago.

This time around, R and I went with Sinuteng Baby Squid (PHP265), Paco Fern and Tomato Salad (PHP195), Sinigang na Boneless Bangus Fillet with Ripe Guava (PHP485), and Lechon Cubano (PHP485). We also got Tamarind Shake (PHP145) and Dalandan Shake (PHP145).

Despite the busy lunch crowd, we got our first dishes within 15 minutes.
The Paco Fern and Tomato Salad was refreshing. The light salad dressing complemented the sea greens and tomato. I enjoyed the slight sweet and salty flavors which whet my appetite.
I was a bit disappointed with the serving size of the Sinuteng Baby Squid. I found it a tad small considering its price tag. But the dish made up for its bold flavors. It was so rich that I think I finished half a cup of rice after munching on a few pieces. (Note: This dish tends to be too salty. You might want to request for the chef to tone down the salt if dining with relatives or friends with high blood pressure.)
The Sinigang na Bangus sa Bayabas (Guava) was love at first bite (or slurp). The thick soup had that delectable sweet and salty flavor which I adore with this dish. I also liked that there was enough fish for this dish to be split to 4 or 5. R, on the other hand, didn't really liked that the dish was sweet.
Our plate of Lechon Cubano took almost forever to be served. It took about an hour before it reached our table and we were already too stuffed with the other dishes we've had. I took a small bite though just to have a taste and it was quite good. I loved the crisp thin lechon skin. The meat though could have been more tender.
We initially thought of ordering dessert but our drinks were overly sweet that left us with no space for more sugar.
Overall, it was a great meal. There were just a few hiccups with service but nothing big for me not to go back for more of Abe's delectable food.

Abe is located at Garden Wing Area, 3rd Floor, Trinoma Mall, Bagong Pag-Asa, Quezon City.
