Revisited: Pepi Cubano

I heard of Pepi Cubano back in 2016 when a handful of friends couldn't stop raving about its pressed no frills Cuban sandwiches. I got to try my very first was when it joined  the Gourmand Market and understood the hype after finishing one of its filling sandwiches. It's not surprising for many to favor this as quick bite. And it also serves as a great afternoon snack for a catch up session.

Hello, Pepi Cubano.

Pepi Cubano grew from a hole in the wall shop in Makati into a multi-branch brand in just a few years and it now has stores conveniently located in malls.
J and I decided to meet at Pepi Cubano Trinoma branch one time and had a long overdue chat over some sandwiches. I went with Pepi Cubano (PHP190) while J got Torrejas (PHP170). I also got Guava Lemonade (PHP95).

I was a bit disappointed with the sad appearance of our sandwiches. Both looked thinner and just sad. But looks could be deceiving.
One bite of my Pepi Cubano made me remember the first one I had. It tasted the same, only it looked different. I loved how the slow roasted ham was beautifully complemented by the tangy flavor of mustard. There was cheese in there somewhere but it was sadly muted by the stronger flavors of the other ingredients.
I wasn't able to try J's sandwich but this French toast topped with ham and sunnyside up egg then drizzled with homemade syrup is my type of breakfast. I don't think I'd grab this though if I'm on the go since it seems like a very sticky option. (Note: Hope there would be more than one slice of ham next time.)
My cup of Guava Lemonade was refreshing though there was a bit too much ice that I didn't feel like I got my money's worth. Maybe I should have asked for less ice. Then again, they might just put less lemonade too.

Overall, it was a lovely light meal. Though the prices seem to be a bit on the steep side considering its serving size, I'll be back to try the other sandwiches.

Pepi Cubano is located at 4th Floor, Trinoma Mall, EDSA, Quezon City.
