First Bite: Cable Car

If you have been partying for the past two decades then Cable Car won't be a stranger to you. Considered as one of the pioneers in the restaurant and bar industry, Cable Car has been around since 1992 satisfying late cravings of night owls and party goers. And to celebrate its 25th year, it prepared a handful of surprises that will delight even the morning foodies and non-drinkers.

Hello, Cable Car.

I always see Cable Car whenever I pass by Fort Strip but for some reason, I found it to be a place for pre-game and post-game drinks and meals. Since I don't really go out late at night to party, I didn't find the place appealing. I had no idea though that Cable Car is more than just beer and small bites. In fact, it is known for its sisig rice. 

To celebrate its 25th year in the industry, Cable Car launches new dishes that would redefine how we've known the famous hangout place. 

Rice bowls, anyone?

Cable Car is now open for breakfast and lunch with its Ortigas and Bonifacio Global City branches opening as early as 6 a.m.. Breaking away from the usual rice bowls such as Longganisa (PHP225) and Tocino (PHP225), Cable Car expanded it by offering Spanish Sardines (PHP195), Bangus Belly (PHP245), Burger Steak (PHP245) and Battered Spam (PHP245) while keeping the favorites Crispy Tapa (PHP225) and Beer-Battered Bacon (PHP225). 

I tried the crowd favorite crispy tapa and liked it. It reminded me of beef jerky, only crispier and drier. It went well with the rice and egg. But I could enjoy this too as is or paired with a pint of beer. And make sure to request for vinegar for that extra flavor!

Not in the mood for rice bowls? There are also other mains to choose from such as Fish & Chips (PHP275) and Salted Egg Carbonara (PHP245). I tried the latter and liked the grainy texture of salted egg which went well with the creamy sauce. 

If pizza is your thing, there are six flavors to choose from priced at PHP425 to PHP525. 

There are also burgers, tacos, burritos and quesadillas and more to choose from. 

If you're with friends, it's best to go with one of Cable Car's platters. Priced affordably at less than PHP800, these huge group platters are good for at least 4 persons. 

I'd recommend Platter II (PHP695) as it has quesadilla, potato wedges and crispy fried tapa. 

I have yet to try most of their dishes but seeing that Cable Car offers some of my favorites, I'd definitely find time to visit its BGC branch and indulge in bangus belly and beer-battered bacon.
