Second Bite: Backyard Kitchen + Brew

I've been a fan of Chef Ed Bugia's Pino and Pi Breakfast & Pies restaurants for years and I was so giddy to try Backyard Kitchen + Brew back in 2015. And it was a memorable experience at that as one year later, I could still remember its succulent baby back ribs and delightful cheddar chips till now. But just to make sure, let's do a second take on the baby back ribs.

This homey restaurant known to serve comfort dishes was one of the stops of Zomato's Food Hop 2017, in partnership with The Grove by Rockwell.

Aside from its bestselling Coffee-Crusted Baby Back Ribs (PHP450/850), we also sampled its Nose-to-Tail Fettuccini  (PHP275) and signature Backyard Margarita Fishbowl (PHP495).
R has a very strong sense of smell and a sensitive one at that hence he didn’t like the Nose-to-Tail Fettuccini as this dish has everything good in between our favorite meats’ nose to tail. Yes, this includes pork cheek, beef brisket, ox tripe and chicken liver.
Don’t get me wrong. It doesn’t smell foul at all. But the smell it exudes isn’t exactly the type that falls under the category “mouthwatering”. Taste-wise, it had a nice tangy taste from the tomato sauce. However, they could have been a bit more generous with it as the pasta was quite dry.
The delectable baby back ribs were still as delightful as how I remember it to be.
Each rack was beautifully glazed with rib sauce and the rub added subtle spice to it.
I also liked the grilled corn and potato salad.
The Backyard Margarita Fishbowl reminded me of the popular margarita fishbowl from Pino. The only difference was that the one from Backyard has a beer bottle inside the fishbowl; that is most likely for aesthetic purposes only.

Not much of a drinker? Don’t fret as you don’t really have to gulp the whole thing down yourself as it’s made for sharing. But hey, no one’s stopping you if you want all of it.
Planning to drop by Backyard soon? Pro tip: Order the baby back ribs!

Backyard Kitchen + Brew is located at Retail Row, The Grove by Rockwell, Barangay Ugong, Pasig City.
