Hello, 205.
Shimmering with its gold and marble interiors, 205 is one eye catching restaurant along Bonifacio High Street Central.
My friends and I decided to have dinner there one Friday night and placed a reservation for 9 at 6:30 p.m.. And it was a good thing that we did as the place started to become packed at 7 p.m..
Since it was a bit chilly when the place was practically empty, we decided to go with Clam Chowder (PHP190) and Pumpkin Soup (PHP170) as starters.
The clam chowder was thick and quite chunky, making it one hearty meal. It is best to share this with someone if you want to try two or more dishes after this.
My bowl of pumpkin soup was flavorful especially with the thin strips of pancetta. However, I was a bit disappointed that it was not thick. It would have been nice too if it was dashed with pepper.
We also ordered The Best Damn Mac & Cheese (PHP350), Truffle Mushroom Radiatori (PHP450), Risotto Ai Frutti Di Mare (PHP420), Quattro Formaggi (PHP480) and All Meat (PHP420). For drinks, I used my Zomato Gold to get two glasses of Mimosa (PHP350) and Kir Royale (PHP350). Note that 205's policy on Zomato Gold is a bit stricter than other establishments. You have to choose the exact same drink to avail of Zomato Gold.
205 was out of homemade maccheronchini (narrow tube pasta) so they used penne instead and cooked it with parmesan, gorgonzola and mozzarella. Though quite pale in color, it was very flavorful showing that 205 did not scrimp on ingredients. Cheesy in every bite, it actually tasted even better with a dash of truffle which I got from Truffle Mushroom Radiatori.
Speaking of Truffle Mushroom Radiatori, this dish is something mushroom lovers would adore. The truffle taste was evident but I wished that they used another type of pasta as I found radiatori to be a bit too thick to absorb the taste of the truffle paste and mushroom cream. It was also too soft for my liking.
Another filling dish we tried was seafood risotto. This plate of arborio rice with mixed seafood, parsley and olive oil is pretty heavy. One order can be shared by at least two persons.
All Meat pizza was nothing short of delicious. Generously topped with sausage, pepperoni, ham, cheese and tomato sauce, each bite was flavorful!
We got Quattro Formaggi as recommended by our server. Made with gorgonzola, grana padano, cheddar, mozzarella and white sauce, it was one cheesy treat with a sweet after taste from green apple balsamic. I'd stick with All Meat which was more savory.
Service was quick but there were a few errors in terms of our requests. I was told that clam chowder was my pumpkin soup and insisted that it was the former when I questioned its pale color. I asked for my soup not to be split to two but they still did. Both were quickly resolved though.
Overall, it was a nice dining experience. I'd be back for Mac & Cheese and I'll try its mains next time.
