First Bite: Churchill

Capitol Commons has been my go to place whenever I want to have a relaxing shopping spree. With the place barely packed on any day of the week, it was the ideal shopping destination for those who want a break from socializing. However, this place changes at night! It evolves into this party hot spot filled with millennials. So what we thought to be a relaxed get together turned into something more than what titas and titos in us could handle.

Hello, Churchill
Churchill is one of the most recent additions to the Capitol Commons dining and drinking scene. Positioned as a not so hidden speakeasy bar behind Highlands Bistro, R's friends figured that this would be a great place for a mini reunion.
We arrived around 8 p.m. and the place was barely packed. With only a handful of tables occupied, the blasting A/C made the small and dark cigar room inspired bar a bit chilly for many.
Though one can order food from Highlands Bistro, we opted to stick with the main menu of Churchill. I got Truffle Mushroom Pasta (PHP350) while R went with Churchill Burger served with Fries (PHP440). For drinks, I requested for Sangria (PHP250), an off the menu drink while R, who was feeling a bit sick then, got a glass of Watermelon Shake.
My glass of sangria was a bit of a letdown. I was by the bar to watch how they made the drink and it only had a bit of wine and it was mostly orange juice. Nonetheless, it was refreshing. But quite steep for a mildly spiked juice.
Truffle Mushroom Pasta seemed to be the popular choice in our table as three out of seven of us ordered it. And it was really good! Creamy with a pronounced taste of truffle with bits of mushroom, it was nothing short of delectable! I couldn't stop myself from twirling more of those thick al dente noodles and indulging a big mouthful each time. I loved it so much that I even hesitated to give R some.
R's burger came out to be bang for the buck. The burger patty was thick and succulent in every bite. Though a dash of salt and smothering it with ketchup would make it better, US prime rib eye patty is scrumptious! Don't forget to eat it with homemade fries.
We moved to the al fresco area when the crowd started to build up inside and became too noisy for us to hear each other. Here, I had a glass of Mojito (PHP200) care of the birthday celebrant, T.
Served on a Poco Grande glass with ice, my drink quickly became watered down. It tasted like I was drinking mint water halfway through. I guess it would have been different if I had it inside where there's that powerful A/C.
Overall, food was great and value for money. I couldn't say the same though for our drinks. I wouldn't mind coming back for more of its dishes but I'd come earlier and leave before the place switches to party mode.

Churchill is located at Ground Floor, Estancia Mall, Oranbo, Pasig City. It opens at 5:30 p.m. daily.
