When in Bacolod: Mimi's Café & Restaurant

I heard that Pendy's in Bacolod is another must visit restaurant in the City of Smiles. With a few dishes in mind, R and I headed to Pendy's for lunch. But Waze brought us to Mimi's by accident. Apparently, Pendy's used to be where Mimi's is now located. Locals say that the owner of Mimi's used to work for Pendy's and things got sour between the two parties hence the split. Mimi's for some reason got the original spot and Pendy's had to move to the lot across the street. And since we were already at Mimi's and got mesmerized by its various delectable pasalubong items, we decided to stay and give it a try. After all, the staff highlighted that Pendy's original chefs now work for Mimi's.

Hello, Mimi's Café & Restaurant
We were greeted by two sections, the pasalubong area and the spacious and rather classy dining hall.
We checked out the local goods first and drooled at the sight of napoleones, half moon and pretty much everything else. R wasn't able to resist and ordered a box of Napoleones (PHP15/piece) right away even before we got to check the restaurant's menu.
After reserving a box of napoleones, we sat near the window and ordered Batchoy (PHP120) and Chorizo with Egg and Rice (PHP295). For drinks, we went with Frozen Iced Tea (PHP75) and Lychee Slush (PHP80).

Our impatient tummies were very demanding though during our visit and made me order Half Moon (PHP40/piece) while R asked for his box of napoleones to be served so that we have something to munch on while waiting for our orders. But we were given more than that. The owner gave us an extra half moon and two napoleones. Sweet!
The half moon was so good! The fluffy chiffon base topped with this sweet thick yema was love at first bite!
We also liked the napoleones. Each one had generous custard filling and sugar frosting on top.

It took about 15 minutes for our orders to be served.
R's breakfast plate of chorizo, egg and rice may look a bit sad with its small serving but one bite would make you think otherwise. The chorizo may be small but each one was packed with flavor. What I liked most about it was that it was slightly sweet creating a nice contrast with the tangy vinegar.
I had high expectations for my batchoy as Bacolod (aside from Ilo-Ilo) is also known for this local favorite. However, it was so salty! There were also some chicharon bits which were too hard to chew. But this bowl of noodles grows on you and soon, I found myself finishing it.
Our drinks were awesome!
And it was bang for the buck!
Since R and I had to work, we decided to stay a bit longer. I ordered a cup of cappuccino (PHP70) to keep me from falling asleep. And I must say, it was a decent cup of coffee.

Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. R and I can't wait to swing by again for some sweet treats!

Mimi's Café & Restaurant is located at 25th and Lacson Streets, Bacolod City. It is beside Tom N Toms.

  1. The first impression can mean that guests return - and hopefully become regulars. On the other hand, a poorly-coordinated evening can result in that guests never coming back! westerly restaurants
