Homey restaurants never fail to get my attention. I'd often find myself approaching it and checking its menu. Such was the case with Katherine's Café when I passed by it on my way to Mama Lou's.
Hello, Katherine's Café.
Brightly lit with a bit of Julia Child vibe, Katherine's Café was bustling with hungry guests when I dropped by for lunch last Thursday.
I was pleasantly surprised with the cafe's beefy menu. From soup to salad and chicken to steak, this place caters to everyone's preference.
I decided to go with Mushroom Cappuccino (PHP188), Seafood Paella (PHP528) and Mango Bang-O (PHP220/slice). For beverage, I got Nana's Green Tea Lemonade (PHP160). R who was not feeling well opted to go with Strawberry Mango (PHP148, fruit shake | PHP188, smoothie).
My bowl of soup is nothing short of delicious. Thick and generously mixed with sliced mushrooms, it was pure bliss. The milk foam on top explains the word "cappuccino". This starter is best enjoyed with the crisp buttered bread it is served with.
The Seafood Paella was good too. Though it was served on a cast iron skillet than a paella pan, not a single grain was left burnt. Each mouthful is chunky thanks to the generous serving of chorizo, green peas, eggs, clams, mussels and shrimps. Drizzle it with some lemon juice for zest. And don't let its size fool you as this dish is quite heavy! We could barely finish half of it!
Our drinks were lovely as well. Though quite pricey compared to the drinks you'd get elsewhere, you definitely get your money's worth.
R's Strawberry Mango is fruity and sweet while my Nana's Green Tea Lemonade is refreshing.
To cap our meal, we shared a slice of Mango Bang-O.
Scrumptious layers of crunch, mango bit and cream, it was a delectable balance of flavors! R found the mango slices on top a bit sour but it actually worked well with the sweet cream.
Overall, it was a great lunch. Service was quick and we were well assisted by the staff. The place gets easily packed during peak hours so expect the place to be full of chatter. But it would be hard to catch up too as you'll be busy stuffing yourself with "Nana's" mouthwatering dishes.
Katherine's Café is located at Ground Floor, Ayala Malls Vertis North, Quezon City.
