Love at First Bite: Visco's Restaurant and Cake Shop

We all know that Baguio is the land of strawberries and anything strawberry. There’s strawberry taho, strawberry sorbetes and even strawberry sinigang. But let’s not go crazy and talk about savory strawberry-flavored dishes. Let’s stick with desserts, particularly shortcakes. And by shortcakes, I mean, Visco’s.

Hello, Visco’s Restaurant and Cake Shop!
I’ve been reading a lot of great reviews about this cake shop along Upper Session Road for years. However, R and I usually avoid city center whenever we visit Baguio as we’re both not so fond of traffic, worrying about parking and crowd. The foodie in me could not take it any longer though and wanted to take a bite of the famous shortcake to know if it really is one of the best in the country. With frustrated tastebuds, I asked R and his parents if we could pass by the bakeshop one evening after dinner for me to buy a slice or two. And they said yes! *twirl*
I was greeted by a long take out queue when I stepped inside the busy restaurant. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to buy a cake as the display showcase was almost empty with only two strawberry shortcakes left.
But the friendly cashier assured me that they still have a lot more and true enough, I spotted a bunch of tall fridges when I reached the counter.
I originally planned to get a slice of Strawberry Shortcake (PHP95/slice) but after seeing how everyone goes crazy over its cakes, I decided to make my trip worthwhile and ordered a 6” cake for PHP430.

I quickly took a slice as soon as I got back to the rest house and it was heavenly!
The chiffon was so soft and fluffy and each layer was stuffed with cream and strawberry slices. But I loved the top part best as it had generous serving of huge strawberry slices and jello.

This treat is perfect with tea or coffee while enjoying the foggy view Baguio offers.

I’ll definitely brave the traffic again for more of this delectable cake!

Visco’s Restaurant and Cake Shop is located at Puso ng Baguio Building, Session Road, Baguio City.
