Restaurant Discovery: Makan Makan Asian Food Village

For some reason, we were very hungry after joining the Food Warrior Eating Challenge. I never thought that chewing can be so tiring and that will make our  tummies grumble for more food.
The weather did not cooperate with the Food Fest of Manila Ocean Park which was held near the North parking lot but it definitely did with our tummies. It gave us a reason to head to Makan Makan Asian Food Village.

I fell in love with how they divided the stations. It looked so adorable and it added a bit of authenticity. The lights were quirky as well. Cans as the light bulb’s container? Brilliant!

We decided to order Char Kway Teow (PHP160), Sautéed Dry Beef Hofan (PHP150/good for 2-3; PHP220/good for 3-5), Dimsum Platter (PHP600/good for 2-3; PHP850/ good for 4-5), Sticky Rice with Mango (PHP120), and Mango Pudding with Sago (PHP65).

The Char Kway Teow arrived first and it has a strong aroma. It smelled like barbeque.
The taste was quite strong as well that made me want to just take a few bites of it. The noodles though were cooked well. The shrimps were fresh as well. I just hope that they lessened the sauce just a bit.

The next dish that arrived was the Dimsum Platter. It was good... not extraordinary, but good. For the number of dimsum, I’d say that this one was a bit overpriced. The server also failed to give us the sauce for the dimsum… which should have been an SOP.

The Sautéed Dry Beef Hofan (no photo) on the other hand had a similar taste with Char Kway Teow (except it had beef than shrimps). It was a bit lighter though and I liked it better.

Now for the desserts…

The Sticky Rice with Mango was served a bit too early. We were still enjoying our Dimsum Platter when it arrived. The rice used for this dessert was a bit too hard. It was also a bit dry. Far from the one served by Via Mare.
The Mango Pudding with Sago on the other hand tasted like peach. We were all confused with the taste. Yes, the texture was definitely pudding, there were also sago (tapioca balls) but that was definitely not mango. Or is that the taste of mango when you’re in Manila Ocean Park.

Nonetheless, I will be back to try the other dishes... and a short visit to the Trick Art Museum beside it. :)
Makan Makan Asian Food Village is located at the 2nd floor of the Manila Ocean Park, Manila.

  1. My only favorite from Makan Makan Asian Food Village is the Milo Dinosaur.

  2. Is it super good? I love making it at home (75% Milo and 25% water). I wanted to try that but it doesn't sound such a great idea to have it with dimsum and noodles.
