Who says you can't have your ramen to go? Well, a lot. Ramen joints refuse to have its delectable noodles for take out even if it's your own leftover. I've seen several customers who went ballistic and argued with the staff when they found out that they can't have their leftover noodles to go. Though I understand that the restaurant just want to ensure product quality, I feel that a simple warning would suffice and just let its customers have their half eaten noodles packed. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about it anymore. In fact, I can even have some Hakata-style ramen delivered!
Hello, Uma Uma.
Uma Uma has been quiet these past months while all other ramen joints have been launching new products here and there. Turns out Uma Uma has been brewing something cool for us. So, anyone up for ramen at home?
Uma Uma is the first to offer ready-to-eat ramen delivery in the metro and it is perfect for those who are craving for this Japanese staple yet can't head to the mall.
I had a chance to have some delivered last week and went with Tonkotsu Ramen (PHP390) and Garlic Ramen (PHP390) with Yaki Chasiu (PHP190), One Bite Gyoza (PHP190) and Dashi Maki Tamago (PHP190).
The food was delivered by LalaFood (though Uma Uma also partners with other food delivery apps) and I got my lunch in under 30 minutes from dispatch. And since it was kept in an insulated box, my food got to me still warm and ready to be enjoyed.
I also love how everything was properly packed. Not a single spill on the paper bag!
I first went with Tonkotsu Ramen and I fell in love with the smokiness of the chasiu. However, the pork's bold flavor overpowered everything else, leaving the broth tasting bland.
Garlic Ramen, though also light in taste, had more flavor to it. The garlic taste was pronounced in every slurp and I love the crunchy texture brought by the beansprouts.
If you want your ramen extra flavorful, add some Yaki Chasiu on top. But I prefer to pair this charred pork with rice!
One Bite Gyoza, as always, served as a great side dish.
I also liked the egg roll. Simple yet flavorful and helps balance the flavors of the ramen. It can also serve as your appetizer.
Overall, it was a pleasant delivery experience. My food arrived earlier than expected and it was received warm and seemed to be still fresh from the kitchen.
The only downside of having ramen delivered is having a giant ball of noodles. The noodles end up stuck together because it was packed while it was hot and cooled down while it was being transported. It wasn't a big issue though and I still got to enjoy my meal. I'd definitely consider this again when I crave for ramen but couldn't be bothered to leave the house.
Uma Uma is located at 5th Floor, Podium Mall, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
