Meralco Announces Another Power Rate Decrease this February 2020

One of the most challenging things about adulthood is managing your household. There are endless upkeeps and bills to pay. But I got word of some sweet news! Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced a decrease in power rates this February!

Hooray for power rate decrease!

Meralco has announced yet another power rate decrease for the second month in a row for February.
The current rate for a typical household consuming 200 kilowatts per hour is now at PHP8.86 per kilowatt-hour compared to last month's PHP9.45. That's PHP0.59 cut per kWh giving the average family a total saving of PHP118 for this month!
Adding the previous month's power rate cut, 2020 started with a total reduction of PHP1 per kWh. And this is considered to go against the usual trend of February in the past half-decade where electricity rates spike up.

The decrease in power rate is attributed to the lower generation charge thanks to the implementation of the new Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) which started last December 26, 2019.

These new PSAs can provide households extra savings with lower power bills. Pair it up with energy-efficient appliances and devices and you'll be saving up more budget for other needs or wants.
The decrease in generation charge for this month is also a result of Meralco's consistent and strategic partnerships with power suppliers with the likes of San Miguel Energy Corporation, South Premiere Power Corporation, and AC Energy, all of which charge lower generation cost. The charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) were also lower this February.

Here are some other tips that could help you save more this coming summer:
-Unplug appliances when not in use to avoid unnecessary power load
-Make sure to always clean your air conditioner units and keep it at mid-setting when in use
-Use a power board to supply electricity to several appliances or gadgets at once
-Make use of natural light during the day

And with those tips and great news, we can be assured of a more comfortable summer!
