Hello, Milk Trade!
R and I rushed to Century City Mall right after a big feast and headed straight to Hole in the Wall. We were so worried that we would be greeted by a closed sign as we got there a couple of minutes before 10 p.m. and a few sites noted that Milk Trade closes that time.
Luckily, it was still open and the friendly staff of Milk Trade entertained us. She also didn’t turn into a grumpy lady while R and I discussed which waffle goes best with which steamed pudding. After 5 minutes or so, we went with the staff’s recommendation—Matcha Egg Waffle with Chocolate Steamed Milk (PHP150).
While waiting, we went crazy with the relatively new Instagram-worthy areas of the pretty food hall and soon, our number buzzed.
The matcha egg waffle had nice crisp edges and the bubbles were soft and fragrant. However, it lacked matcha taste. To be fair, it was not just a green waffle. It did have a faint taste of green tea. It’s just that I was expecting a stronger taste of it.
The Chocolate Steamed Milk was just like your typical chocolate pudding. It was served warm complementing the waffle. It would have been nicer if it had a more chocolate-y taste or more syrup to give it a sharper contrast against the light flavored waffle.
I hate to say this but it was just a so-so experience. I’m not sure if I expected too much from a simple dish or if I’m just not really into egg waffles. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad at all. But it was nothing spectacular as well for me to go back for more.
Milk Trade is located at Hole in the Wall, Fourth Floor, Century City Mall, Kalayaan corner Salamanca Street, Poblacion, Makati City.
