Ippudo Launches Zero Ramen

Ippudo has been one of my favorite ramen joints in town. It has the right balance of flavors--umami yet not overwhelming. And to celebrate Ippudo's 33rd year anniversary and 4th year in the Philippines, it goes back to its roots and features its base ramen--Zero.

Hello, Ippudo.
I was invited to Ippudo's anniversary celebration not knowing what to expect. So it was a big treat to be able to sample the ramen that started it all.
Zero represents Episode Zero of Ippudo, the ramen before the story. This was developed by Fukuoka-based visionary Shigemi Kawahara in 1984, a year before he opened his first Ippudo store. Featuring the signature creamy tonkotsu broth, classic Hakata-style noodles, succulent salted char siu topped with green onions, ajikikurage and sesame seeds, each slurp would give you that delightful blend of light flavors. Familiar yet new.
I loved it a lot. As a fan of light flavored ramen, this hits the spot. Some of my friends though were not very thrilled with this dish as they prefer heavier and bolder flavors. And if you are too, try adding some garlic bits for extra taste.
This limited edition Zero ramen will be available from October 17 to November 18, 2018 at Ippudo SM Megamall, Powerplant Mall, Ayala Malls Vertis North and SM Mall of Asia for just PHP290!
But here's even better news! Ippudo is giving away 330 bowls of Zero at its SM Megamall branch for its first 330 customers. So better set your alarm clocks ready!
On a side note, I also tried some of Ippudo's rolls which I didn't even know they have.
The Torched Salmon Roll (PHP299) was pretty good! As a fan of salmon aburi, this one was an instant favorite! It may look plain and simple but a mouthful of this is packed with bold flavors, something great to have with Zero.
If you want something even more filling, Ebi Tempura Roll (PHP299) is the better choice. Stuffed with bits of ebi tempura and glazed with unagi sauce, this slightly crunchy sweet and savory roll will fill you up in no time.
I'll definitely drop by Ippudo again to get hold of more Zero and perhaps pair it with Torched Salmon Roll.

Ippudo has multiple branches in Manila. Zero will be available at SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, Powerplant Mall and Ayala Malls Vertis North.
