Michelin Guide 2019: The Local, Thailand

One country that proved to be worthy to be part of everyone's travel list is Thailand. Aside from scoring the best bargain for cute outfits, Thailand is a wonderful place to go on a food adventure. And the first place we visited as soon as we landed was a Michelin Guide restaurant in Bangkok.

Hello, The Local by Oamthong Thai Cuisine
The Local is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Bangkok which is about an hour away from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Its warm and quaint interiors alone makes it a favorite by locals as it creates a vibe of enjoying food at home.
And with its name representing words Local, Old Recipes, Culture, Authentic and Learning, one could quickly pick up that you're in for a Thai feast.
Its extensive menu could be a bit overwhelming and it was a good thing that we were with a Thai acquaintance to order for us.
For starters, we got an Appetizer Set (THB250) which comes with Northern Thai Noodles in curry soup, Roasted Coconut, Lime and Shallot Wrapped in Lotus Leaves, Fish Cake, Chicken wrapped in Pandan Leaves and Rice Crackers with Thai toppings.
The Thai noodles with curry soup was amazing! It had that sweet yet savory blend of flavors that would make you want another serving. The curry was so rich that I want to have it with rice. I also liked the fragrant chicken as it was so juicy and flavorful.
Homemade Yellow Curry with Crab Meat in Fresh Coconut Milk (THB390) was a show stopper. This plate with generous serving of crab meat swimming in thick yellow curry was like taking a bite of heaven.
I got to enjoy huge chunks of crab meat in every mouthful. We requested for the curry to be just mild and it was perfect! It had that sweet and savory taste that would make you want more rice.
Deep fried Tiger Prawns (THB550) was another favorite by our group. Huge deep fried prawns cooked with spices and garlic, what's not to love about this snappy seafood?
And speaking of prawns, we had the Thai classic Tom Yum Goong (THB150, small | THB280, large). The sweet and sour soup with prawns, mushroom, kaffir lime leaves and Thai herbs definitely tickled my taste buds. I also liked that they made it mildly spiced yet still packed with flavors.
Stir-fried Southern Local Vegetables with Eggs (THB180) was your usual sauteed vegetables. But it was a nice break from all the curry we've been eating.
We capped our meal yet another Thai classic, Mango with Sticky Rice (THB150). I was pleasantly surprised that the mango was actually sweet despite its pale color. The sticky rice was great too. It was far from the mushy kind and it was beautifully drizzled with coconut milk.
We also got a dessert platter which also had Mango Sticky Rice. Other desserts are homemade ice cream and some Sticky Rice Flour Dumpling in Sweet and Salty Warm Coconut Cream. It was a bit too much for us and ended up with some leftover.
I also had Thai Milk Tea while R went with a local Thai beer.
I was surprised when they served my second Thai milk tea in a bucket! I guess they sensed my love for this drink.
Overall, it was a fantastic start of our trip. Food was great and service was lovely. We left with zero doubt on why The Local is part of Michelin's Guide 2019.
The Local is located at 32 Soi Sukhumvit 23, Khwaeng Khlong Toei Nuea, Khet Watthana, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Thailand.
