Northern Eats: Fat Daddy's Smokehouse

Fat Daddy's Smokehouse is one of the well-loved Marikina restaurants that expanded to other areas of Metro Manila. I first tried its famous and pocket friendly ribs at its Forbestown branch and instantly fell in love with all of its cheesy dishes. I was heartbroken when I saw this branch close down as I hardly visit Marikina. Thankfully, Fat Daddy's Smokehouse opened another more accessible branch. This time, it's in Quezon City or U.P. Town Center to be exact.

Hello again, Fat Daddy's Smokehouse!
I was welcomed by dark wood furniture and wall murals that give the place a warm and inviting vibe.
As I wait for my host A, I recall my favorite deconstructed strawberry shortcake. And I later found out that they discontinued it. *cue sad music*
For this visit, I tried Buttermilk Fried Liver (PHP210), Jera's Ultimate Pulled Pork and Bacon Nachos (PHP330, half | PHP600, whole), Hot Pork Poppers (PHP175), The Big Bird Burger (PHP350), Smokehouse Mafia (PHP640), Sausages & Co (PHP370), Hot Mess (PHP170), Pecan Pie (PHP250) and Caramel-Drizzled Banana Pudding (PHP170). For drink, I went with Lemonade (PHP150).
First served was our half order of pulled pork and bacon nachos. As always, Fat Daddy's never scrimp with its serving of toppings. It was cheesy, meaty and flavorful. It definitely whet my appetite!
I'm not very fond of liver but Fat Daddy's made it more delectable with its buttermilk coating. Though it still didn't make me go gaga over liver, munching on three chunks was an accomplishment. (Foie gras is a different story.)
My favorite appetizer though was the crisp Hot Pork Poppers. Deep fried to perfection, these bacon strips were so delightful to eat. It definitely didn't have a cloying taste and I would definitely eat two orders of this in one sitting. Dip this in vinegar for that lovely contrast in flavors.
I have to admit, the appetizers alone made me full but I cannot resist sinking my teeth into Fat Daddy's ribs.
Smokehouse Mafia is a combination of Fat Daddy's famous smoked ribs and succulent brisket. This is the priciest set meal in the menu but I'd say that this is also the most satisfying. Both meats were smothered with the scrumptious barbecue sauce and each bite was oozing with flavors.
The Sausages & Co is composed of hotlinks and chicken barbecue. I wasn't too crazy with the hotlinks as it was a bit dry for my liking but its smokey taste was spot on. The chicken barbecue was just as delightful as the ribs. But if I were to choose between chicken barbecue or ribs, I'd go with the latter.
Hot Mess was love! This overloaded mashed potato was so good! I loved that it was generously topped with cheese and bacon!
Unfortunately, The Big Bird Burger didn't really make an impression. Then again, maybe because I was already very full when I took a bite of this poultry burger.
I found the Caramel-Drizzled Banana Pudding too heavy for a dessert. It was dense but light in flavor making it easy on the palate.
I liked Pecan Pie more though. It was sweeter and the nutty taste of the pie was addicting. The contrast of textures between the filling and the crust was great too.
Overall, it was a very filling visit at Fat Daddy's. I'd definitely go back for more nachos, ribs, brisket, hot mess and pecan pie.

Fat Daddy's Smokehouse is located at Ground Floor, U.P. Town Center, Katipunan Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
