First Bite: Respite

Tomas Morato has turned from a drinking spot to a food haven these past years. And now, with more variety and restaurants, I sometimes get confused on where to eat. Thankfully, a Tomas Morato food crawl introduced me to this slightly off the grid coffee shop that offers delectable green tea cake! I wouldn’t have discovered this if it weren’t for that superb foodie event organized by Zomato.
Hello, Respite!
It’s easy to miss this cafe across St. Mary’s College as it’s not exactly near the “happening” streets filled with restaurants and bars. But that is actually makes this place even more charming. It gives off a more relaxed vibe perfect for an afternoon coffee session.
During our visit, I had Caramel Latte (PHP135) while R went for an Oreo Milkshake (PHP115). We also paired our drinks with some Dark Choco Chunk Cookies (PHP50), Revel Bars (PHP70) and Matcha Cake (PHP115/slice).
Do not let the poor latte art deceive you. This cup of coffee was pretty good. It was sweet yet had that delectable caffeine kick.
However, if I were to choose, I’d go with milkshake which seemed move value for money and a smarter choice given this crazy heat.
The Dark Choco Chunk cookies were delightful. It was chocolatey but not cloying. It’s best to enjoy this with black coffee or tea for balance.
The revel bars were moist and chocolatey as well. It is at par with Purple Oven’s famous bars.
My favorite that afternoon was the Matcha Cake which I was iffy to try at first given its light green color.
Each bite was packed with green tea flavor and the chiffon was moist delighting my palate. I’d definitely get this again on my next visit.
And if you like to bring your dogs with you when dining out, this is a great option for you. The two sisters behind respite have two dogs too who hangout in the cafe from time to time and they always welcome new friends for their little ones.

Respite is located at 72 Mother Ignacia Avenue, Paligsahan, Quezon City.
