First Bite: Fat Fook

I've always been so curious about Fat Fook ever since I saw several posts of its famous chicken chops online. It made me wonder if it would be a lot better than the other brands that claim to offer the number 1 Taiwanese chicken chops. However, its location wasn't exactly a "couple of blocks away" from where I live so it took me several months before I got to visit it. And I finally did last December when I was out panicking on what gifts to buy.

Hello, Fat Fook.
It was refreshing to step inside this beautiful restaurant with porcelain bowls for light fixtures and comfortable couches. It was the break I needed from the Christmas mayhem.
I was quickly assisted towards one of the vacant couches and I ordered Fat Fook Chicken Chops (PHP238) and Xiao Long Bao (PHP138, 5 pieces | PHP198, 8 pieces). I also got a glass of Wintermelon Tea (PHP98).
Service was fast and I got my drink within 5 minutes. It took so much effort for me not to take a sip till all orders arrived for that "group photo."
Good thing my other orders arrived within the 15 minute mark and I got to take one long sip after the taking a few snapshots. And it was one sweet refreshing sip. I loved that it was not very sweet though the wintermelon taste made me want to enjoy it with tapioca balls.
For PHP238, Fat Fook's chicken chops is value for money. One order can be shared by two and even three or four if eaten as snack.
I absolutely love its crunchy thin batter and the very flavorful and juicy meat. Though chicken chops are usually enjoyed as a snack, I prefer to eat this with rice.
Sadly, the xiao long bao did not meet my standards as the wrapper was a bit too thick for my liking. However, the pork filling and broth was spot on. I noticed that one of my XLB still had raw flour on it and pointed it to the manager on duty. And without questions asked, she offered to replace my order with a new one. But I already ate four of the XLB and simply declined her generous offer. Nonetheless, I commend such good service.

Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and I would definitely go back for more chicken chops. (And I actually did last March. But that's for another blog entry.)

Fat Fook is located at Ground Floor, SM North Edsa Main Building, SM City North Edsa, Quezon City.
