First Sip: Satchmi

I have been hearing a lot of good things about Satchmi, a hipster café located at SM Megamall’s posh Fashion Hall. I’m actually familiar with the brand as I know one of the owners way back when they were still selling vinyls in bazaars. Satchmi sure is a brand that shows how passion plays a key role in a business’ success. Anyway, this entry is about my coffee experience.

Hello, Satchmi!

It has been almost a year since I have planned to visit this place. However, the place is always packed whenever I pass by. 

As an impatient foodie, I simply could not wait more than 10 minutes for a cup of coffee especially when there are a lot of coffee shops nearby. But my last Megamall visit was a lucky one as I spot an empty spot at the communal table when I passed by the adorable café with inviting interiors. 

I quickly ordered a cup of Cafe Latte (PHP140) as I was told that it’s one of the shop’s bestsellers. 

I went straight to the empty seat as soon as I paid for my drink out of fear that someone will get it before me. 

But I ended up sitting by the bar near the fenced facade of the store as it had better lighting and more props to play around with.

I had a blast with the cute cacti and artworks and even the machuca tiles used on the floor. 

I took a sip of my drink after my mini photoshoot and… I was quite disappointed with my drink. I’m not sure if it was because I was expecting too much from my drink based on the great reviews I read online or if I have turned into a coffee snob. Or maybe because of my lack of cultured tastebuds? I don’t really know. I was sure of one thing though and it was that I didn’t like my drink.

It was on the bland side. It was not sweet nor bitter. 

Then again, it wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t that good too to charge me PHP140. It would be at best 3 out of 5. But the lovely ambience made it better so I’m giving this place 3.5 stars.
