First Bite: Calea

A trip to Bacolod is not complete without visiting Calea, one of the famous dessert places in Bacolod. It has delighted countless foodies with its wide selection of pastries and I was excited for it to tickle my taste buds.

Hello, Calea.
I was hoping to do a photo op with its famous rustic blue door. Unfortunately, its main branch was under renovation when we were in Bacolod so we had to make do with its L'Fisher Hotel branch.
We got there a bit past 8 p.m. and the place was half full.
I was impressed with the number of cakes on display making it very hard for me to choose just one cake. But after a couple of minutes and suggestions from the staff, I decided to go with Choco Crunch Ice Cream Cake (PHP95) while R went with Choco Mud Pie (PHP110). R's friends K and M went with Chocolate Cake (PHP95) and Blueberry Cheesecake (PHP95).
Service was quick as we got our cakes in less than 5 minutes.
I first tried my Choco Crunch Ice Cream Cake topped with rice crispies and it was good. The vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate covered rice crispies is a treat Crunch fans would like.
However, it would have been better if the rice puffs were crunchier.
I liked R's Choco Mud Pie more as the chocolate ice cream Calea used was rich and creamy.
The chocolate cake was great too as it was decadent. The chiffon was moist while the cream filling added sweet taste and thick texture to the beautiful slice of cake.
I liked that the base of the blueberry cheesecake had a bit of crunch and that the cake itself was very dense and creamy. The blueberry on top added a sweet and slight tarty taste to it.
We actually ordered coffee to go with our cakes but the server forgot our order. And it was a good thing since we were full from the cakes.

Though all cakes were good, I didn't find it exceptional. I guess I was expecting too much from this famous cake shop. But I'd give this place another go in my next visit to the City of Smiles.

Calea is located at Ground Floor, L'Fisher, 14 Lacson St., Bacolod, Negros Occidental.
