Food Delivery Discovery: T Kitchen's Bangladeshi Dishes

I was always iffy to try South Asian cuisine as I have low spice tolerance. With the region known to add spices in its dishes, I thought that I'd have a hard time in Nepal when R and I visited it last November. But I didn't expect that I would like some of its local dishes. I would even go for seconds! And when I was approached by T Kitchen to try its Bangladeshi cuisine, I was more open to it.

Hello, T Kitchen.
T Kitchen is the brainchild of Tania, a Bangladeshi home-based cook who decided to offer her home cooked dishes to the public during Manila's community lockdown.

Love at First Bite: Jamie's Kebabs

Growing up in a household not very fond of Meditteranean food made me appreciate this cuisine later in life. I never thought that I'd love kebabs, hummus, pita, and dip almost everything in garlic sauce. It even became one of my constant cravings during Manila's lockdown. And I'm so glad that there's a new place in town that serves superb Middle Eastern food.

Hello, Jamie's Kebabs.
Jamie's Kebabs is the newest food concept by the people behind Main Street. It serves the classic beef, chicken and lamb kebabs as well as other staples like hummus and pita wraps.

First Bite: Sultan Mediterranean Grill

Kapitolyo never fails to fascinate me. I've seen it transform from a quiet residential area to a food haven with countless restaurants and concepts. Now, with the area being too saturated and parking becoming even scarcer, we'd see the newer establishments opening nearby instead of within Kapitolyo. One of the streets becoming busier is Brixton and that's where I spotted Sultan.

Maginhawa Food Park StrEat Find: Bricks & Copper

Food parks are popping out here and there. But one of the first and established food parks in Manila is in Maginhawa and it sure has a witty name to boot.

Hello, Maginhawa Food Park StrEat!
StrEat has became a must-visit food park ever since Lost Bread became trending in Instagram. Its attractive interiors is also a hipster magnet.

There are several food stalls inside but we decided to stick with a few namely: Lost Bread, Bricks & Copper, Egg-It and Schmidt’s Hot Dog

It was a bit crowded when we visited around 5:30 pm but the food park organizers were prepared for it and placed ample number of tables and chairs for diners. We didn’t have a hard time getting a table for 5. First on our list is Bricks & Copper.
R and I ordered Chicken and Beef Kebab (PHP100 per piece) without rice as we wanted to save space for other finds.

Service was good as our orders were served within the 10 minute mark.

The two kebabs were plated in a no frills manner and we were given a small serving of red and white sauce on the side.
The chicken kebab had a weird texture. It was also a bit tough making me think that the chicken was still raw when it was served. In short, I didn’t like this one.
The beef kebab was a lot better. It was initially served with just the red sauce; but we had no problem requesting for some white sauce for it.

This was was a lot better than its chicken counterpart. But it wasn’t exactly outstanding for me to go back for more.
Looking back, it was a bit expensive for its quality.

P.S. Parking could be hell here. If you’re on a food crawl, it might be better if you park elsewhere and just walk here.

Bricks and Copper is located at Maginhawa Food Park StrEat, 91 Maginhawa, Teachers Village, Quezon City.

First Bite: Jack's Joint

R told me that we were heading to Tomas Morato one Saturday night to visit his friend's new restaurant business called Jack's Joint. It is not exactly a new brand as this is the second branch of the well-loved kebab place in Tondo.

Hello, Jack's Joint

The place looks deceiving from the front as it would seem like a very small place but it actually has a deep space and could comfortably sit around 40 diners inside.
Since we were not really hungry, R and I decided to share a Quarter Pounder with cheese (PHP85) and Special Kebab (PHP195). For drinks, we went with Mango Yogurt and Strawberry Shake (both are priced at PHP75 for small and PHP95 for large).
I was surprised with our large drinks as both glasses were filled to the brim! It was value for money in terms of quantity. As for quality...
Well, of course, you wouldn't expect the strawberry shake to have real strawberries in it. But it was pretty good. I loved my mango yogurt more though because of the delightful tart of the yogurt. I can't stop sipping!
The special kebab was served next. Simply plated, it proved how this is a no-frills kind of place. It was very straightforward.

Restaurant Discovery: Feta Mediterranean

Whenever I see new restaurants, I salivate. Okay, that didn’t sound so girly or proper but sadly, it’s true. I tend to be less picky when I’m hungry. Anywhere will do (as long as it’s a place I’ve never been to). And on our way back to the parking, we spotted Feta Mediterranean.
Hello, Feta Mediterranean!
The place is located a bit away from the strip of other restaurants so you could easily miss this one. But since we were walking, we spotted it.
There were only a few tables occupied when we arrived. We managed to get some couch seats and ordered Tomato Soup (PHP140), Grilled Salmon with Lime Butter Sauce (PHP490), a beef wrap I totally forgot its name and price, and a glass of their House Blend Iced Tea (PHP90).
First served was the tomato soup and it had bits of mozzarella to make it thicker. Somehow though, the mozzarella all clumped together making it seem like soggy and chewy bits of bread. It was served warm though and was quite okay as an appetizer.

My First Bite: The Kebab Factory

(A prequel to the Mega Mall Food Sale entry)

Some colleagues and I went to SM Mega Mall to have lunch as one of them needed to shop. We had several options. There’s JiPan, Sbarro, The Kebab Factory, and Pho Hoa. We decided to consult the powerful and all-knowing eenie meenie miney moe to help us decide and the finger landed on JiPan. For some reason though we wanted to eat somewhere else so we decided to choose one and say at the same time where we want to eat… The Kebab Factory won.

*Off to The Kebab Factory*
It was my first time to dine there so I read the menu “Curious George” style. The dessert G’ulab Jammu (sugar milk balls dipped in syrup) got my attention as my friend gave it her seal of approval. I didn’t order it though since I was saving up for my ultimate food galore trip next month.  I promised myself that I will try this in the near future. I heard that it has a bit of herbal taste. Dessert? Herbal? Interesting…
Since I was on a tight budget, I decided to order C2, Chicken Mast Kebab (PHP180) and Papadum Masala (PHP95) but what I really wanted to order were M1, Chollo Sultani Chicken Mast and Beef Kebab (PHP275), Spinach and Feta Cheese Dip (PHP200), Mango Kulfi—The Kebab Factory ice cream with pureed mangoes and hint of cardamon flavor (PHP150) and Sweet Lassi (PHP120). My bill would have reached PHP745 (exclusive of tax and service charge) if I gave in to my tummy’s request.

Anyway, featuring my affordable picks!
