Ramen never fails to brighten up the gloomiest day. Just thinking about slurping tonkotsu broth and munching on thin noodles topped with chasiu is enough to motivate me to get out of bed and head to the nearest ramen joint. And last weekend was the perfect day to check out the newest ramen shop in town--Hakata Ton-ichi.
Hello, Hakata Ton-ichi.
Bright and fresh out of a manga book, this is what I felt when I stepped inside Hakata Ton-ichi. Neon signs, wooden furniture and colorful graphics ornate this ramen shop's massive space at SM North Edsa's newest wing.

When in Tagaytay: Aozora Japanese Restaurant
It has been a long while since R and I drove to Tagaytay. As much as we would like to have a quick getaway, the horrific traffic discourages us from heading anywhere on weekends. But this long weekend's festivities sure made us change our minds. Our first stop, Aozora Japanese Restaurant.
Hello, Aozora.
Aozora has been one of the popular dining options in Tagaytay that it finally expanded and opened a second branch, across One Tagaytay Place.

New Bites: Ramen Bar's Longganisa Ramen
Watching Asian dramas never fail to make me crave for ramen. Is it just me or more often than not, there will be at least one scene where the lead character will joyfully slurp down a massive mouthful of piping hot noodles straight from the copper pot in a squat position? The low EQ foodie in me always make me want to grab a pack of noodles myself. But there are times when I want something better than instant noodles and that's when I brave Manila traffic for some good ol' made with love ramen. And this time, I went with Ramen Bar.
Hello, Ramen Bar.
This wasn't my first time in Ramen Bar. I remember I visited its first branch in Eastwood about a eight years ago with some friends. Ramen Bar is one of the first players in the ramen category 10 years ago. Sadly, it didn't stay relevant and was left in the shadows of ramen giants such as Ramen Nagi and Ippudo. But that does not mean that Ramen Bar offers mediocre food. In fact, its ramen are just as good as each and everyone's favorite! And there's one Ramen Bar variant that caught my eye-- Longganisa Ramen (PHP320).

New Bites at Tsuta
Christmas is fast approaching and its cool night breeze never fails to make me crave for a hot bowl of soup or ramen. And I sure am glad that Tsuta was our last stop for our FOODEE Crawl.
Hello again, Tsuta.
Tsuta has been one of the most talked about ramen joints since it opened last December. It was hard not to be curious about this place given it is the first ever ramen shop to earn a prestigious Michelin star.

First Bite: Kureji
The summer heat this year is insane! I don't recall Manila hitting 40 degrees Celsius before. But it would never be too hot for ramen. And there's a ramen shop that adds sizzle to ramen.
Hello, Kureji.
Kureji is the newest concept of Baby Spice Group, the company behind Cucina Peruvia. This time around, they decided to put a little bit of twist to some all time Japanese favorites.

First Bite: Marugame Udon
I've been eying this new Japanese restaurant franchised by Suyen Group for quite some time now. Sadly, my uncooperative schedule keeps me from visiting High Street. Hence, when my client requested for us to meet in Marugame Udon, I quickly said yes.
Hello, Marugame Udon.
I dropped by the newest Japanese udon joint around 1pm so I was able to avoid the lunch queue.

First Bite: Hanamaruken
I have been hearing a lot of good feedback about this ramen joint at The Grove. It made me curious when two of the foodies I know and trust mentioned that this is their favorite place for their noodle fix. However, I could never seem to find time to visit as I usually head elsewhere. Luckily, I got the perfect opportunity to drop by last Saturday.

Now in BGC: Uma Uma Ramen
I think I’ve used the
sentence “I love Japanese food” countless times to the point of me quoting
myself. But I can’t resist it. I really do love this Asian cuisine and always
find myself craving for more. And when I found out that one of my favorite ramen
joints finally opened in Uptown Parade, I just have to drop by ASAP. But
adulthood got in the way and it took me a few months before indulging in some
Hakata ramen.

Restaurant Discovery: Happy Cream Puff
Hello, Happy Cream Puff.
I never noticed that Happy Cream Puff serves savory food. Well, the name itself is pretty deceiving. I just buy cream puffs and I'm gone. But true enough, they do serve savory dishes and other drinks aside from brewed coffee.
After checking the menu, I went with the Beef Stew (PHP260) and Coffee Jelly (PHP120) while my sister went with Chicken Karaage (PHP180) and my mom ordered the Spaghetti a la Carbonara (PHP180). (Prices are very pocket friendly.)
Next served were our meals.
The beef stew was great! The meat was so tender and I actually ate the carrots! I normally hate carrots and I would only eat it if I like the sauce or dip that goes with it.

Restaurant Love: Mangetsu
It’s finally a few days
before my birthday again! It means lots and lots of eating and planning lunch
and dinner dates with the people I love. I just love celebrating birthdays
(even if it’s not mine).
I’ve been wanting to try Mangetsu for quite some time now
and since some of my friends and I finally found a date where we’re all free, I
took it as a chance for us to all go to that Japanese restaurant.
Konnichiwa, Mangetsu!

I
was a bit scared that we might not have seats given we're meeting on a
Saturday so I made sure to reserve a table for 6 the day before. I was
expecting a full house but there were still a few tables left vacant
when we
arrived.
I love that they welcomed me by first name. It made me feel like a
regular customer. :D
