More Than Just Juice: GoJu

It has been extremely hard to go on a diet these past months due to all the food events, local trips and travels abroad. I've also been to two cruises this year which meant endless eating for days! And despite trying to cut down on calories, I couldn't find myself giving up refreshments, specifically juice as it makes any meal better. But I think I found the brand that would help me get my weight in check.

Hello, GoJu.

Restaurant Love: Matutina’s Seafood House and Restaurant

I’m so glad that I live in a country rich in seafood. With a bunch of seafood restaurants around, I never have to worry on where to get my under-the-sea fix. And whenever I travel north, one of the stops I look forward to is Matutina’s Seafood House and Restaurant.

The Healthy Diaries: Chimara

I usually steer away from healthy food as more often than not, it tastes bad for me. I guess I’m just not meant to be a healthy eater as I like fats, sweet stuff and everything actually bad for the body. Though I try to eat those dangerous tummy ticklers moderately, I could feel the oil crawling and flowing through my veins and getting stuck somewhere. I just had to detoxify. And when A of Chimara contacted me to sample their dishes, I quickly said yes.

Hello, Chimara!
Located at the ground floor of U.P. Town Center, I was greeted by a bright green counter which screams “healthy restaurant”.
I went in and was welcomed by the friendly staff who assisted me in getting the bestsellers. I went with Faux Beef Salpicao with Rice (PHP180) and Tuna Wasabi Aioli Salad (PHP230). For drink, I ordered I am Strong (PHP80, petite).
My drink was served first and it tasted really… healthy. The beetroot gave the drink an earthy taste that might take a while for others to enjoy. The carrot and apple added a bit of sweet taste which made my bright red drink enjoyable.
I was worried with the Tuna Wasabi Aioli as the word wasabi means spicy. I was assured by the staff though that it is tolerable and that the spicy sauce is served on the side hence giving me full control on how spicy I want my greens to be.

First Bite: Coconut House

I love how Pokemon Go brings me to places. R is not the type who likes to go out and eat but since he is very much into Pokemon Go, we have been going around the city and hanging out in crowded places these past weeks. One of the places we recently frequent is Quezon Memorial Circle which is known to be a hot spot for Pokemon hunting. One of the best spots in the area is Coconut House which has three Pokestops within reach.

Hello, Coconut House!
This restaurant is quite interesting as it is known for incorporating coconut in ALL of its dishes. However, we were still full from our heavy lunch when we opted to hang out outside the restaurant.
The intense humidity though made me want something cool so I checked out some of Coconut House’s cold treats and decided to get a popsicle. One coconut popsicle only costs PHP8! Talk about cheap thrills! It is also a great blast from the past treat.

Cebu Food Stop: Sunburst Fried Chicken

Every time I tell my friends that I’ll be visiting Cebu, they always tell me to eat lechon for them. But when I’m in Cebu, I eat chicken. Crispy chicken skin.

Hello, Sunburst Fried Chicken!

Conveniently located at SM Cebu, this casual dining place is one of my favorite places in Cebu. They serve simple yet crispy fried chicken but it has this appeal that I find irresistible.

R and I shared a Classic (3pcs) Sunburst Fried Chicken (PHP198) and Chick’n Crackers (PHP198, large). We also ordered a glass of buko juice and buko shake.
First to arrive were our drinks. My buko shake wasn’t that sweet making it a good thirst quencher. It was also perfect as it was really hot that day!
The chicken skin and chips were served next and it was L-O-V-E.
R loved it and kept eating while telling himself that it’s a sinful dish. The crispy skin dipped in vinegar was delightful! My sister would have loved this dish too.

A Healthier 2012: Juju Cleanse

As a food lover, I would have never thought that I would last more than a day not eating anything that requires chewing.

Start the year right. Cleanse. Detox. Get rid of the bad habits. Don’t you just love the first quarter of the year? For hard core junk food lovers [like me], we’re pretty much apathetic.

Yet, being addicted to challenging myself and just about the most random dares, I immediately said “ME!” to a colleague when she asked who’s game to try the Juju Cleanse.
Juju what?

Juju Cleanse, according to its website is a “no fuss, all benefits approach to juice fasting.”  Basically, you will be under detox where the only thing you will eat, rather, drink, will be juice.
