Yummy Eats 2014 Countdown: 33 days to go!!!

33 days to go before the yummiest event of the year! Yummy Eats is back with more food finds to satisfy our ever growing discriminating taste buds.

I just love it that every single concessionaire that is part of the event offers amazing (and I mean AMAZING) dishes as each concessionaire is carefully screened by Yummy’s editorial team. Yummy Eats is definitely not an event for all as several do not make the cut. So you are guaranteed to have happy tummies when you leave the venue.

Looking back, I always look forward to March as that’s the time when Yummy starts to screen the concessionaires. Different kinds of food fill the pantry for us to savor. And the best thing was… it was part of our job! We were actually working while enjoying those yummy dishes. Oh how I miss those days.
Anyway, I believe Yummy has been announcing some of the participants this year through its Facebook page so make sure you like Yummy magazine’s page for updates!

I am hoping my favorites Mochiko, Pepita’s Lechon, Crunchy Belly, and Pio’s Kitchen will join again!

I am so excited for the biggest foodie event of the year! See you all soon! :D
P.S. They are offering the tickets at really really (did I mention really?) affordable prices. Get your ticket at PHP250 if you buy through Yummy.ph (<--click now!!!). If you get 5 tickets, one is free as you just have to pay for PHP1,000. Now how sweet is that?

YUMMY EATS 2013 COUNTDOWN: 19 days to go!

It’s the time of the year again when we get to discover great dishes and meet amazing food entrepreneurs with crazily creative ideas on how to turn simple dishes extraordinary. Yes, it’s Yummy Eats time again!
We were lucky to get first hand dibs on the products the concessionaires will sample. With over 50 concessionaires, we had a hard time focusing on which products to try first. But here’s a teaser of what to expect on the 18th of May at the NBC Tent.

Pio’s Paella offers classic and black paella. The clams and shrimps used were undeniably fresh. Every spoonful is oozing with flavors.

Baby Pat Breads and Pastries offers usual ensaymadas and your not so usual ones. With the craze of Speculoos, they now have Speculoos ensaymada! You must taste that!

Love cheesecakes? Food Lab will be selling their rich cheesecakes and will sample it too! Try it with their cookies for added crunch!
Or how about bacon? Mad Meats Bacon will be serving its bacon slabs while The Kitchen Slave will have its Smocked Bacon Caramels available.

YUMMY EATS COUNTDOWN: 19 days to go!

In just 19 days, one yummy event is about to happen at The Rockwell Tent. I’m now preparing my tummy for one day of chewing, gulping, and drooling.
I’m excited. After meeting most of the concessionaires for Yummy Eats 2012, I can’t help but dream of riding a time machine and fast forward to MAY 26, 2012.

I discovered new food favorites already while chatting with some of them while sampling their products.

Foodie Alert: Yummy Eats 2012

May is starting to become one of my favorite months. (No, I am not yet a mom and I am not expecting a baby anytime soon.) There just seem to be a lot of things happening on this month. First off, May starts with “no work” because of labor day. There are also other fun events such as fun runs, a Manila Amazing Race (c/o Couchsurfing) and of course, one super Yummy event.

It’s back! It really is back! Yummy Eats 2012 is about to happen in 26 days! This is definitely the start of my countdown.
For those who were not able to attend Yummy Eats last year, well, this is your chance! Yummy Eats is an eating and cooking fair that rounds up some of the best finds in Manila (and some even in nearby provinces)! Screened by the editorial team of Yummy magazine, you’ll surely find a new food favorite. I did last year. (Oh wait, I had favorites!) There will also be several cooking demos giving you new recipe ideas and a cook-off but this one will not be your usual kind. (Intriguing, right?)

2011: A Gluttonous Year

Disclaimer: Yet another random blog but is surely something from the bottom of my heart (and tummy).

I can’t believe that today is the end of 2011 and awesome 2012 will begin. So many things happened to me this year and I do not regret any of it. I have experienced a lot and visited so many different places this year and met awesome people who are as passionate as I am when it comes to food and exploring Manila.

To end the year, I’d like to highlight some things that made this year extra special.

Intramuros
Oh how I love this place! The Old Manila feel plus the numerous kalesa makes this place an ideal dating and hangout place for me. I remember touring a not-so tourist here and I was the one who ended up enjoying it more. It was like a blast from the past. Educational, fun and truly memorable.

Binondo
I have mentioned before that I have never been to Binondo till June 19, 2011. It was a rainy, rather, stormy day when we decided to explore Binondo in search for some warm soup. We went to Ying-Ying, a popular Chinese (well, almost every food establishment there is Chinese) restaurant in Chinatown. The congee was bland but the experience was… delicious. (Okay, perhaps that sounded a bit wrong.) Now I always find myself in Binondo searching for food; may it be exotic dishes like Soup #5 or ice cream from the Chinese supermarket or the got-almost-everything Korean mart. Plus, this was the place where I got my first kalesa ride!!!

My Food Love: The Fruit Garden

I was never a jam person. I grew up addicted to Nutella, cheese spreads, and peanut butter. I thought that I’ll never like jams till I discovered The Fruit Garden.
I first saw The Fruit Garden during Yummy Eats. But since I was running around like crazy, I wasn’t able to sample The Fruit Garden’s jams. Good thing, my mom bought a bottle of Pineapple Mango jam.

I usually picture jams with bread but this one seems best with the ultimate cracker… Skyflakes. It was a sweet combination.

A recap of the Yummiest event of the year!

Yummy Eats, a cooking and eating fair was held last May 21, 2011 at the NBC Tent from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and was attended by food lovers, Yummy magazine readers, kids, and a lot more. The highlights of the event were the following:
a.)    Sampling of the handpicked concessionaires of Yummy magazine

b.)    Cooking demos of McCormick, Hunt’s and Sarangani Bay Prime Bangus

c.)     Kitchen Safety Talk by Petron Gasul and Yummy Food Business Talk headed by Nowie Potenciano of Mochiko, Pam Lim Cinco of Risa Chocolates, and JJ Yulo of Pinoy Eats World

d.)    Hunt’s school cook-off challenge participated by Institute of Culinary Arts and Food Service by Far Eastern University, College of St. Benilde, and St. Paul University, Manila

e.)    Yummy Booth where attendees can buy Yummy magazine, current and back issues, Yummy bookazines, and Yummy merchandise including Yummy pins, aprons, and bags!
Attendees had fun not only through sampling galore but they also went home with lots of new food finds and knowledge. Most were focused on listening to the talks and cooking demos as they actively participate in the discussions. They are also game in answering some questions raised by the chefs such as Chef Gigi Angkaw and Chef Nino Logarte.
The spotlight though was with the students of the cook-off as they battled it off for 2 hours to win the first ever Hunt’s School Cook-off. It started with the announcement of the theme ingredient brought by Hunt’s “Hunter”. The theme ingredient was… CHORIZO DE BILBAO.
The students were not anticipating it as they really expected that it will be pork and beans as this is the most popular product of Hunt’s. They were given 30 minutes to do menu planning and 3 minutes to do their food shopping as we have to close the pantry. Students panicked when it was down to the last 10 seconds.
We were surprised that there was one team who used the rice cooker by ELECTROLUX differently. They used it to cook their sauce. We were also on the lookout for the plates as these were sponsored by CORELLE.
TIME’S UP! Finally, the time for the judging arrived and the students have to present their dishes to the panel of judges composed of: Ms. Marcia Gokongwei, Chef Nino Logarte, Hunter, and our very own food editor, Rachelle Santos.
All dishes were judged based on taste, creativity of the use of Hunt’s products and the theme ingredient, and plating or presentation.
After a few questions and tasting of the dishes, Institute of Culinary Arts and Food Service was announced as the winner.
This has been one successful event. Thanks to everyone who made it. We hope to see you again at Yummy Eats 2!
